2022 Cricket Report for August

Cricket report Lennox Head PS vs Banora Point PS Thursday August 25th

There is an old adage in sport that a team with momentum is hard to stop. That philosophy continues to ring true for the mighty Lennox Head PS cricket team who have won their latest PSSA knockout match against Banora Point PS on Thursday 25th August by 10 overs.

The Lennox crew made the early trek up the Pacific Motorway to compete with the best from Banora at the picturesque Walter Peate Oval in Kingscliff.  Lennox captain, Tully C, correctly called the right side of the coin and had no hesitiation in sending the home side in on the evenly paced deck. Tully C and Beau G took custody of the shiny new Kookaburra and like a pair of snipers they quickly honed in on a fourth stump line and length.  The Banora openers tried hard to take the shine off the new pill but had trouble middling the willow in a tough early battle. At the 12 over drinks change Banora were 1/22.

Banora came out after the break in the search for quick runs with the Lennox warriors rising to the challenge, stepping up the intensity in the field.  Kobe Mc, Archie B , Max P and Hayley A continued to find a way to bamboozle the home side's sloggers, taking regular wickets and comfortably strangling the run rate.  Banora finished their 25 overs on 6/70 with Kobe and Max taking one scalp each and Beau snaring a pair of poles for only 6 runs off his 5 overs.

Billy B and Henry R strode to the pitch after the innings interval with a steely glare in their eyes and the weight of the side on their shoulders. Get off to a good start and the game was theirs. Lose early wickets and Banora would grab the ascendency and be in the box seat. If these young swashbucklers were nervous, you certainly couldn't tell. They easily took control of the Walter Peate stage and picked off the home side's seamers with ease.  In a fine display of controlled batting, the boys took the team to 45 with the loss of the first wicket.  Despite a couple of run outs, Billy B continued to take the game by the scruff of the neck and held his end to finish with 34 not out, steering the visitors to a resounding win.  He was ably assisted by Henry, Jack K, Tully C and Jacob P as the Banora total was surpassed in the 15th over.

The most pleasing aspect of the Lennox win was the sportsmanship and athleticism shown in the field with Joel W putting in his usual talisman-like efforts behind the pegs and Zac D leading the way with some classy cover-point fielding.

Lennox Head PS now await the results of two other games in order to find out who they will play in the North Coast knockout semi-finals.  A massive thank you to all the parents who helped out with travel and cheering on the team and a special thanks to Kerryn Kernaghan for once again volunteering her time to score for our school.
