The juggernaut that is Lennox Head PS cricket continues to roll on with the team recording a nail-biting victory over the Pottsville Beach PS XI on Thursday 22nd April at Skennar's Head.
A well executed flip of the coin from Lennox captain, Tully, saw the Pottsville batsmen sent in on a lively seaside deck offering plenty for both batsmen and bowler. The ever reliable pace duo of Reef and Harry had the Pottsville batsmen on the hop early with some accurate seam bowling backed up by a beautiful piece of fielding from Blake with a direct hit run out. Pottsville were quickly reeling at 4/6 after the first 6 overs. Blake and Henry refused to take the foot off the throat of the Pottsville middle order, strangling the run rate whilst continuing to take regular wickets. At one stage, Henry had the amazing figures of 3/0 off 2 overs. Hudson bamboozled the willow wielding Pottsvillians with a masterful display of right arm tweak bowling. Crafty keeper, Joel, was always in the game and Zac, Hannah and Ed provided plenty of encouraging chatter in order to buoy the spirits of the mighty Lennox team. Harry chimed in late with his third wicket, a screamer of a catch from Kobe in the gully, to have the team from the Tweed Coast all out for 46.
Confidence was high in the Lennox dressing sheds at the change of innings but the Pottsville bowlers quickly proved they were no easy beats, having the team in blue and green in trouble with some early scalps. Settled batting from Billy, Tully and Kobe slowly wrestled the game back in favour of the home team with the latter two batsmen steering the score to 4/42 after 20 overs with only 5 runs to get off the last 5 overs. Some batting jitters then set in to give the Pottsville team a slight sniff of victory, only for Harry and Reef to grab the reigns and guide the side to a well deserved win.
Once again the team played with outstanding sportsmanship and spirit, something that all parents and players should be immensely proud of. We await notice of our next opponents and game day details.
A special shout out must go to Kerren and Brayden Kernaghan for their assistance with officiating and scoring. It is the community support shown by families such as the Kernaghans that make wonderful school memories possible for the students at our school. Thanks again.
