September 1st was a pearler. Sun shining, 24 degrees, and a gentle swirling breeze - optimal conditions for peak athletic performance. Fourteen of the most athletically talented students from Lennox Head Public School descended upon Lismore to participate in the highly competitive North Coast Athletics carnival. This prestigious event brought together the most promising student athletes from a vast region stretching from Laurieton to Tweed Heads and as far west as Kyogle. Despite facing fierce competition, the students from Lennox Head Public School demonstrated exceptional skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day, and accomplished what no other group of students had done before.
The junior boys, with their incredible teamwork, reached the 4x100m relay final, showcasing their remarkable potential for the future. Zara R's impressive performance in the 100m earned her a spot in the final, a testament to her dedication and hard work. However, it was the Junior and Senior Girls 4x100m relay teams that truly stole the show, securing their spots in the State Championships. Billie B showcased her exceptional endurance, and with a grandstand finish that saw her edge out her schoolmate Ellie as she secured 3rd place in the Senior Girls 1500m, and became the first of many State qualifiers for the day. Charlyze D and Harley D displayed their talent by finishing 3rd and 2nd, respectively, in the 11 Year Old Girls 100m, giving a great sense of hope to our relay chances at the next level, and signalling Lennox Head as a beacon of sprinting prowess. Charlyze capped off a remarkable day with a 2nd place finish in the 11 Year Old Girls 200m to take her tally up to 3 qualifications for State – amazing effort! Ava K's unparalleled stamina, that some have likened to the Duracell Bunny, earned her 2nd place in both the Junior Girls 800m and 1500m events. Due to her double qualification in the distance events, Ava will have more track coverage than Channel 7! With his turbocharger spooled up, Will D was all right foot as he opened the throttle and dominated both the 100m and 200m events for the junior boys at blistering pace, setting himself up as a strong contender for success at the State Carnival.
Impressively, 11 students from Lennox Head Public School advanced to the State Athletics Championships in Sydney, a historic achievement for the school, and they carry the best wishes of their community as they prepare to compete on the grand stage at Sydney Olympic Park on October 25th-26th. Regardless of their results at the next level, this cohort will stand head and shoulders above the pack in the annals of Lennox Head Public School’s athletics history and will provide a stellar example to the upcoming talent pool of athletes in the lower grades. It's clear that Lennox Head Public School has a bright future in athletics, and the dedication and talent of these students have made their school proud.
Well done, and the best of luck to:
